Things have been busy lately, and my 20% project has fallen by the wayside as action research, traveling, teaching, and job applications drain all of my time. Wedding planning has been at the bottom of my to do list, but one thing HAD to be done before March ended: sending Save-the-Dates. As of now I have not progressed any further than my last post, so basically I can just write lowercase letters.
Well the urgency of sending out those Save-the-Dates didn't leave me much time to learn capital letters, and besides my online lessons have only gotten through the letter "P" anyways, so I decided to just make it up as I went along. This was a perfect opportunity for me to practice my calligraphy addressing (my motivation behind learning calligraphy).
I grabbed my pen and ink, a modern calligraphy exemplar, and got writing. About 4 hours later I had a stack of addressed envelopes and a developing style. Here's a sample:

Modern calligraphy is much more artsy than traditional calligraphy. The lack of a good straight line is actually part of the style. It's called "bounce." I definitely still need some practice but this little trial by fire was a great start!
